Your “To Stop” List

When you stop doing what doesn’t matter, you turn down the noise and create room for what you really care about.  Sometimes you need to subtract before you add.

The Terrifying Habit Of Highly Successful People

It’s been a while since I read a truly good motivational book

Feels like in the last decade every Tom, Dick and Harry decided to write one… with various results, to put it mildly.

Having no luck with finding anything inspiring, I came back to the good old classic:

Stephen R. Covey’s “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People”

(If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend that you do).

Anyway, sitting with my battered (highlights, notes, coffee stains…) copy last night, I came to the part I wanted to share with you:

How I killed my ‘I’m not ready’ syndrome overnight

This story happened some years ago.

Back then I wasn’t very happy with my life – chasing deadlines, tired and stressed, living from Friday to Friday; enjoying the occasional breaks when I could sleep longer than 6 hours, read book at home rather than during morning commute and of course dream about all that I was going to do with my life… one day…

…when I had more time

…when I was less tired

…when I had more money

…when I had a better idea

…when I felt ready

…when when when… a word that became my mantra; my excuse;

I was drifting through life dreaming of a day when all the stars aligned and the change would happen.

When To Ditch A Good Business Idea

Ideas are like buses:

You wait ages for one and then two come at once.

It happened to me the other week:

In the space of three days I came up with two really good business ideas.

I toyed with them for a couple of days, figuring out the details, creating mini business plans in my head.

But at the same time knowing they would never go beyond the planning stage…

For example, both would require for me to stay put in one place for the next few years, which would mean dropping some of my most important life goals.

The First Pancake Rule

If you’ve ever made pancakes, you know the rule: the first pancake always goes to the bin… Or to an impatient, hungry kid hanging around you. Or to a dog ;-)

I have no idea why, but the first pancake never looks good. It’s never round and it’s either burnt or undone.

The really interesting part is how we react to this weird rule of nature: everybody just kind of accepts that in order to make bunch of perfect pancakes, you need to screw the first one up.
