September 2010

Each year, I try to do something off-the-chain special for my birthday. This year it will be a flaming heart tattoo and this awesome guy as a coach.

Aside from any specific gifts, the biggest focus for me on my birthday is Appreciation. Appreciating all the wonderful blessings and people in my life. Especially appreciating my mom for giving birth to me (it’s called a birth-day for a reason, right?).

More than anything, this community at Illuminated Mind is one of the biggest blessings to me.

Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Scott Dinsmore of ReadingForYourSuccess.

Have you ever been in a situation you weren’t too proud of, but haven’t done anything about it? Maybe you’re in that situation right now.

The most real example to so many of us is being in a job we don’t love (or might even despise). We know we could be spending our time in a more fulfilling way that leverages our natural strengths and likely adds more to society.

So, you might be a blogger, or might be thinking about creating a blog. Maybe you want to make a living online following your passion. Fantastic.

But the sad truth is, most bloggers never make the money they really want to online (even though this mistake is easy to avoid, and I’ll teach you what to do instead in a moment). Most people start out with good intentions, but they get one thing very wrong from the beginning.

They assume if that they just build a blog and get a lot of readers, that those readers will want to buy things from them.

There’s an old saying that goes “if you do what you love, the money will follow.” I’m not sure who made this up, but it’s likely the cause of a lot of broken dreams for a lot of people.

After all, if you do what you love and that happens to be rock collecting or ice cliff jumping, you probably won’t be able to have the money follow. You’ll probably hear crickets chirping.

Everyone knows this and it’s the reason so many people put off following their passion; they don’t want to find out that no one cares, and no one wants to buy what they have to offer.

All right, it’s was really tough to choose the winners of the contest here. Ultimately it came down to who I thought put the most thought and care into their answers. There were some answers that just repeated what was in the video, which was OK, but I felt like the people that took the time to really think about how they felt were the deserving winners.

Drum roll…

The winners are:

  1. JC
  2. Jeshyr

Both of their responses were incredibly heartwarming, and sincere which is why I chose them.
